Clinical Laboratory Science

Program Overview

UT Pan American's 15-month Clinical Laboratory Science (Medical Technology) Program begins in September of each year and ends in December of the following Year.  The program consists of a nine-month phase on-campus in which the student learns basic techniques and theory in clinical chemistry, microbiology, hematology, urinalysis, immunology and blood banking.  These courses are carried out using University classrooms and laboratory facilities under the direction of University faculty members.

Following the on-campus work, the students are placed at one or more of the affiliated hospitals for a five-month clinical experience.  The program is affiliated with six full service hospitals including McAllen Medical Center, Valley Baptist Medical Center, Edinburg Hospital, Knapp Medical Center, Mission Hospital and Rio Grande Regional Hospital.  Here the students further develop their professional skills and are exposed to the real experiences that are encountered in hospital laboratories.  During this period, the students are supervised by hospital staff and University faculty.
