Immediate Release: Tuesday, September 17, 2002 LADY BRONCS 10TH AT LADY EAGLE CORINTH, TX-The University of Texas-Pan American’s women’s golf team turned in another good performance Tuesday. The Lady Broncs shot 315, just three strokes off their best round in the last three-plus years, finished with a 54-hole total of 950 and finished 10th at the 12-team Lady Eagle Invitational, hosted by the University of North Texas. Oral Roberts finished first at 898, followed by host UNT at 903, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 906, Arkansas State at 914, Southern Methodist at 920, McLennan Community College at 929, Southwest Texas State at 931, Lamar at 937 and Sam Houston State at 946. Following Texas-Pan American were Southwest Missouri State at 952 and McNeese State at 959. Freshman Stefanie Maynard (Pflugerville, TX/Pflugerville HS) shot a final-round 73, giving her a 54-hole total of 222 and allowing her to finish fifth overall. Freshman Daniela Cortes (Aguascalientes, Mexico/Colegio Portal) shot 75 and 237, and tied for 33rd. Junior Crystal Frazier (Coolidge, TX/Wortham HS) shot 80 and 247, tying her for 51st, freshman Nikki Boychuk (Conroe, TX/Willis HS) shot 87 and 253 and finished 59th, and junior Itziar Unanue (Apodaca, Mexico/Colegio San Patricio) shot 89 and 257 and finished 62nd. “I’m really excited about our start, especially with the fact that we have three freshmen, “said UTPA Head Coach Barb Odale. “This is the first time that any of them have ever played 36 holes in one day. I’m especially excited about Stefanie’s finish. This is the first time we’ve broken a thousand since I’ve been coaching, and we weren’t that far off from finishing fifth, so I was pleased.” The Lady Broncs will return to action at the Notre Dame Invitational September 27th through the 29th.
