Hipolito Lead UT Pan American Cross Country at Adrian Martinez Invitational Pictures
from the Women's Race EDINBURG – Perla Rios picked up her first collegiate victory, while April Hipolito took third to lead the University of Texas-Pan American Cross Country team at the Adrian Martinez Invitational. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi won the team title in both the men’s and women’s divisions of the meet. Rios, a
senior from LaPorte, Texas, ran away from the field, covering the
five-kilometer course in 18:46. It was the fourth time this season that Rios has finished in the top
five overall in six meets. Hipolito,
a freshman from Buda, Texas, took third overall with a time of 19:11.
The place was her best this season and third in the top 10 overall this
season. Patty Villareal
took seventh overall, her best showing this season, with a time of
20:54. Rachel Hudson led the way for the Islanders
with a time of 19:10. Laura
Duewel was fourth in a time of 19:48, while Leeann Jimenez was fifth in
19:58. In the team
standings the Islanders slipped past the Lady Broncs 25 to 34. On the men’s side the Islanders ran away with the meet, taking the top five places overall. J.J. Garza finished first overall in a time of 19:46 for the four-mile course. David Rodriguez followed him in 19:55 and Eddie Geis in 19:59. Herbert Varella was the top Bronc finisher with a 10th place showing in 21:24. Israel Arroyo took 11th place for the Broncs in 22:12. The Broncs and Lady Broncs will wrap up the 2000 Cross Country season at the South Central Regional in Denton, Texas on November 11th. 2000
