EDINBURG, TX-With a game under their belt after their recent six-game
road trip, The University of Texas-Pan American's women's basketball
team will play the second and final game of their two-game home stand
when they host Incarnate Word Tuesday evening, Game time at the UTPA
Fieldhouse is 7:00 p.m.
The Lady Broncs will bring a 7-12 record into the game. They last won
at Sacramento State January 7th, and hope that the added rest they had
since Saturday night's game against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi will
help them be successful.
"When you play so many games on the road, it affects your legs,
which affects your shooting percentage," said UTPA Head Coach DeAnn
Craft. "We've also committed too many turnovers. Getting back home
to play five of our last nine games here, with prep time between each
game is what you like to have at this time of the year."
Incarnate Word, a Division II member of the Heartland Conference, is
13-6, and has won five of their last six games since losing a two-point
decision at Midwestern State New Year's Eve. The Crusaders are 8-4 away
from home, and are 4-1 on opposing home courts.
"Incarnate Word is an extremely fundamental offensive basketball
team," said Craft. "They shoot it extremely well, so we have
to find ways to take them out of rhythm, and disrupt the flow of their
offense. We need a collective intense effort. We have to do a much better
job on the boards than we did the other night. They shoot the ball extremely
well, so we have to get out and challenge them and play with intensity."
After Tuesday night's game, the Lady Broncs will return to action when
they visit Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne Saturday afternoon.
