KEATING AGAIN NAMED INDEPENDENT RUNNER
EDINBURG, TX-For the second time in three weeks, a cross country runner from The University of Texas-Pan American has been honored.
Sophomore Westly Keating (Pharr, TX/PSJA North HS/Texas) has been named the NCAA Division I Independent Male Runner of the Week. Keating was chosen in a vote of the coaches.
Keating finished first overall as The University of Texas-Pan American men's cross country team finished first and the women were third at the Whataburger Invitational at Texas-San Antonio Saturday evening. Keating completed the four-mile course in 19 minutes, 35 seconds to post his first victory as a Bronc.
"I think it's a nice honor for Westly, he's been working really hard," said UTPA Head Coach Ricky Vaughn. "He beat some really quality people at San Antonio. Westly ran a very good time, and he's very deserving of this honor."
UTPA's will return to action at Texas A&M October 12th.
