Release: Thursday, February 27, 2003 BRONCS HOST ISLANDERS FOR THREE-GAME SERIES EDINBURG, TX-After taking a couple of days off from practice this week due to inclement weather, The University of Texas-Pan American's baseball team is back in action, preparing for a three-game series against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at the Edinburg Baseball Stadium. The teams will meet in a doubleheader Saturday at 4:00 p.m; and will play a single game Sunday at 1:00 p.m. The Broncs saw their two-game, mid-week series at Texas Tech cancelled because of inclement weather. Texas-Pan American also was unable to practice, because of the weather. "We took off earlier in the week, because it was too wet," said UTPA Head Coach Willie Gawlik. "It's not always bad to have an off day. We've been going real hard, working every day, and we haven't had too much time off, so it may help us." UTPA will take a 7-7 record into this weekend's games, and is coming off last weekend's series against Arkansas-Monticello, "We'll approach this weekend's games like we would any other games, " said Gawlik. "They beat Texas, and they lost to A&M in the last inning, so they must be doing something right." The Islanders bring a 7-2 record into this weekend's game, after having their Wednesday doubleheader against Lamar rained out. TAMU-CC defeated Texas, 5-0, in their opener, and split a pair of games at Southwest Texas State last weekend. "They have good pitching, and they've been hitting the ball," said Gawlik. "We're going to have to play good defense, and get good pitching in order to be successful." BA-31-03022703
