BASEBALL BRONCS TO BE HEARD ON LA TREMENDA-AM 1530

EDINBURG, TX-The University of Texas-Pan American's athletic department has taken another step forward.

For the first time, Texas-Pan American athletics will be broadcast in Spanish as the baseball Broncs will have 10 games on seven dates broadcast live on KGBT Radio, AM 1530, La Tremenda, this season. The Broncs will make their debut on La Tremenda this Saturday, when they open the season against Southwest Texas State at 7:00 p.m. at the Edinburg Baseball Stadium.

The schedule will also include the game Sunday afternoon, February 9th, against Lamar; a doubleheader against Arkansas-Monticello Saturday, February 22nd; the doubleheader against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Saturday, March 1st at 4:00 p.m; a single game against Illinois Saturday, March 15th that will be part of the first annual UTPA/Al Ogletree Classic; a single game against Dallas Baptist Friday, March 28th; and a doubleheader against Texas-San Antonio Wednesday, April 30th.

Hugo De La Cruz, the program director for KGBT AM and FM, will handle the play-by-play, while Armando Almazan will handle the color.

Weidner. "This partnership with La Tremenda-AM 1530 and the Hispanic Broadcasting Corporation will provide our athletic program at The University of Texas-Pan American with a wonderful and exciting opportunity to reach out to the Hispanic community throughout the Rio Grande Valley as well as Mexico!"

Hispanic Broadcasting Corporation's Vice President and General Manager, Joe A. Morales, was pleased with the agreement. "We are excited to partner up with The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs," said Morales. "The Hispanic community is very supportive of collegiate sports, particularly baseball. We feel that by matching our legendary sportscaster, Mr. Hugo De La Cruz, and our colorful commentator, Mr. Armando Almazan, the broadcasts will very exciting and full of enthusiasm. These play-by-play broadcasts will keep the entire Hispanic community on the edges of their seats.
