Mission

The mission of academic advisement at the University of Texas-Pan American (UTPA) is to assist students in identifying and understanding their potential interests, values, abilities, needs, and goals, and to guide them towards becoming informed consumers of university resources.  In support of the University’s mission statement, academic advisement promotes academic excellence and celebrates student diversity.

Goals and Objectives

  1. To help students establish their goals based on clarification of values
  2. To lead students to better understand the nature and purpose of higher education.
  3. To provide accurate information about educational options, requirements, policies and procedures.
  4. To assist students in planning an educational program that is consistent with his/her interests and abilities.
  5. To assist students in continual monitoring and evaluation of their educational progress.
  6. To integrate the many resources of UTPA to meet the student’s special educational needs and aspirations.
