Who should come? The training's target audience is Community Health Professionals, who work on the TX-MX Border and need to use timely data to assess and plan for local health needs, grant writing, and who need to understand the changing demographics of the communities they serve.
In a computer lab setting, participants will use the American Factfinder (data search tool) to conduct searches using the 2010 Census and American Community Survey (ACS). They will learn how the ACS supplements the 10-year census with continuous social, economic, housing, and demographic data.

We are pleased to announce an advanced computer lab on using census data in grant writing. The lab will feature data from the 2010 Census and the American Community Survey (ACS), the most relied-on source for detailed, up-to-date socio-economic statistics covering every community in Texas.
Who should come? The lab is designed for participants who attended Using Census Data for Grant Writing in August, 2012 or who have basic navigation skills with the American Fact Finder2, Census 2010 and ACS.
The Grant Writing II computer lab will feature latest updates for 2010 Census and The American Community Survey. In a live computer lab setting, students will use a case study to practice mapping techniques, use tables to access ACS social/economic characteristics and 2010 Census demographic profiles. The focus will be on understanding when to use what data sets, application of ACS data products, understanding geographic concepts, and improving navigation efficiency.

The "Border Communities" training will guide participants on using data from the 2010 Census and American Community Survey, the most relied-on source for detailed, up-to-date socio-economic statistics covering every border community in Texas.
Who should come? The lab is designed for community non-profit organizations, health professionals, and local governments who work on the Border and use data for budget analysis, needs assessment, grant writing and planning.
In a live computer lab setting, students will use the American Factfinder (data search tool); conduct searches using the 2010 Census for population numbers/basic characteristics, and American Community Survey for social/economic characteristics such as educational attainment, income, occupation, poverty status, and nativity. Special emphasis will be placed on accessing data on colonia communities and other small area data in the Rio Grande Valley.
