HESTEC 2008

Welcome to the H-E-B Planetarium

Department of Biology

Biology is the study of living organisms and how they interact with their environment. Biology examines every aspect of life in a living organism, including structure, function, growth, origin, evolution, and distribution.

The department of biology offers a Bachelor of Science degree, and a Master of Science in biology.

For more information consult the Department of Biology web site or the UTPA Catalog.

Department of Chemistry

Chemistry is the science concerned with the composition, structure, and properties of matter, as well as the changes it undergoes during chemical reactions.

The department of chemistry offers a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Science in chemistry. The department also offers programs of study for premedical and pre-dental studies, plans of study for pre-pharmacy and teacher certification in chemistry.

For more information consult the Department of Chemistry web site or the UTPA Catalog.

Department of Computer Engineering

Computer engineers design and develop computer hardware, software, peripheral devices, and communication networks. They are actively involved in web development by developing new features, tools, and services for the World Wide Web and the Internet.

The Computer Engineering program is offered jointly by the Department of Computer Science and the Department of Electrical Engineering and offers a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering degree (BSCE). There are two available tracks: the Hardware track and the Software track.p>

For more information consult the Department of Computer Engineering web site or the UTPA Catalog.

Department of Computer Science

Computer science is the study of the theoretical foundations of information and computation and their implementation and application in computer systems.

The department of computer science offers a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (BSCS) and, a Master of Science with a major in computer science, and a Master of Science in Information Technology.

For more information consult the Department of Computer Science web site or the UTPA Catalog.

Department of Electrical Engineering

Electrical Engineering deals with the study and application of electricity, electronics, and electromagnetism. Electrical engineering has applications in almost all areas of industry, including computer systems, control systems, telecommunications, semiconductors, electronics, and electric power.

The department of electrical engineering offers a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, and a Master of Science in engineering degree.

For more information consult the Department of Electrical Engineering web site or the UTPA Catalog.

Engineering Management Program

Engineering Management is a specialized form of management that is used to successfully lead engineering personnel and projects. Training and experience is typically required in general management and in specific engineering fields.

The Engineering Management Program offers coursework leading to a Master of Science.

For more information consult the School of Engineering and Computer Science or the UTPA Catalog.

Department of Manufacturing Engineering

Manufacturing engineering deals with manufacturing, production and service systems. Manufacturing engineering focuses on engineering design, manufacturing processes and materials, and the management and control of man-made systems.

The Department of Manufacturing Engineering at the University of Texas-Pan American offers a Bachelor of Science degree (BS MfgE) and a Master of Science (MSE) in Manufacturing Engineering.

For more information consult the Department of Manufacturing Engineering web site or the UTPA Catalog.

Department of Mathematics

Mathematics deals with concepts such as quantity, structure, space, and change.

The Department of Manufacturing Engineering at the University of Texas-Pan American offers a Bachelor of Science degree. The department has a Master's graduate program and is currently in the process of obtaining Ph.D. programs in Applied Mathematics and in Mathematics Education.

For more information consult the Department of Mathematics web site or the UTPA Catalog.

Department of Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical Engineering is an engineering discipline that involves the application of principles of physics for analysis, design, manufacturing, and maintenance of mechanical systems

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Texas-Pan American offers a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering degree and a Master of Science in Engineering.

For more information consult the Department of Mechanical Engineering web site or the UTPA Catalog.

Department of Physics & Geology

Physics is the study of matter and its motion, as well as space and time. Geology is the study of the solid matter that constitutes the Earth.

The Department of Physics and Geology at the University of Texas-Pan American offers a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies (MSIS).

For more information consult the Department of Physics & Geology web site or the UTPA Catalog.

Physics Education Program

Physics is the study of matter and its motion, as well as space and time.

The Department of Physics & Geology offers 36-hour program leading to a Mater of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies (MSIS) in Physics education with thesis and non-thesis options. These options are designed to prepare students in their pursuit of further professional development and for interdisciplinary graduate studies in their area of concentration in physics.

For more information consult the Department of Physics & Geology web site or the UTPA Catalog.

Information Technology Program
The Master of Science in Information Technology (MS-IT) Program, within the department of computer science, provides students a strong foundation for study of advanced topics in information technology and a knowledge of state-of-the-art applications in the field. Students come to the program with a wide range of backgrounds, and the first semester of study supplies the competencies for further, more specialized courses. In general, students with degrees in other disciplines or who have been away from academic study for an extended period can begin graduate studies in selected courses during their first semester of enrollment. Many students are practicing professionals who seek to extend and refine their skills in information technology, and most courses are offered in the evening.

For more information consult the Department of Computer Science web site or the UTPA Catalog.
