TExES Testing for Current Students

All certification programs require State mandated testing

  • Tests for certification are called TExES (Texas Examinations of Educator Standards)
  • All information can be found in the 2011-12 TExES/ExCET Registration Bulletin or refer to the TExES ETS website for testing, registration, and dates

Test Approval to take a TExES Exam:

First time test takers registering for the paper-based test (PBT) must submit their Pre-Registration forms five (5) working days before the regular registration deadline to be approved to register for the test.

Retests must be requested 5 working days prior to published deadline.

There are no late or emergency registration fees for computer-administered tests (CAT).


*PPR Test Update: Test #110 (Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities 4-8), #130 (Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities 8-12), and #194 (Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities EC-6) will be offered for the last time August 31, 2011. They can be used in certification applications which are submitted and recommended by October 30, 2014, with the rest of the certificate requirements completed by August 31, 2014.
  • Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities (PPRs): Contact Mary Gonzales for the TExES Eligibility Form and submit to the Office of Teacher Certification and Admission Services, EDCC 3.240, where you will complete the Certification Exam Pre-Registration Form for test approval.

  • All other content exams: Contact the department’s authorized representative to obtain a TExES Eligibility Form. Submit the TExES Eligibility Form to the Office of Teacher Certification and Admission Services, EDCC 3.240, where you will complete the Certification Exam Pre-Registration Form for test approval.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Test Dates for computer-administrated tests (CAT) are viewable to registrants in the ETS online registration system. You will not be able to view the CAT test dates until you have been approved to register for an exam.

Test Approval to take the Bilingual Target Language Proficiency Test (BTLPT):

The BTLPT is only offered as a computer administrated test (CAT).

There are no late or emergency registration fees for computer-administered tests (CAT), however applicants can only register for the BTLPT during the registration periods listed below.

  • Bilingual Target Language Proficiency Test (BTLPT): Visit the Office of Teacher Certification and Admission Services, EDCC 3.240, where you will complete the Certification Exam Pre-Registration Form for test approval.
  • Only students who have been admitted to the Teacher Education Program and are following a Bilingual Generalist degree plan may register for the BTLPT.

Bilingual Target Language Proficiency Test (BTLPT)*

  • The Bilingual Target Language Proficiency Test (BTLPT - 190) – Spanish will be required of all educators seeking Bilingual Education certification beginning with the 2011-12 testing year.
  • The TExES BTLPT – Spanish is administered periodically during one-week administration windows.

Test Approval to take Languages other than English (LOTE) - Spanish:

The LOTE-Spanish is only offered as a computer administrated test (CAT).

There are no late or emergency registration fees for computer-administered tests (CAT), however applicants can only register for the LOTE - Spanish during the registration periods listed below.

  • Languages other than English (LOTE): Visit the Office of Teacher Certification and Admission Services, EDCC 3.240, where you will complete the Certification Exam Pre-Registration Form for test approval.
  • Only students who have been admitted to the Teacher Education Program and are following a Spanish degree plan may register for the LOTE - Spanish. An eligibility form obtained from the Spanish Department will be required in order for you to be approved to test.

Languages other than English (LOTE) - Spanish*

  • The Languages other than English - Spanish (LOTE – Spanish / 613) will be required of all educators seeking Spanish certification beginning with the 2011-12 testing year.
  • The TExES LOTE – Spanish is administered periodically during one-week administration windows.

1 Administration Window – With few exceptions, no testing occurs on Sundays.

2 Registration Period – For BTLPT and LOTE, all available test dates and test centers should be viewable to registrants in the ETS online registration system by the registration period start dates shown.

3 Scores Available – Scores should be viewable in the ETS online registration system no later than 5 p.m. Central time on the dates shown.
