Standard Certificate

Certification is a TWO-STEP Process:
  • Recommendation:
  • You must submit all required documents to The Office of Teacher Certification and Admission Services, EDCC 3.240.
  • Apply and Pay:
  • You must apply and pay online with the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) in order to be recommended for certification.

How to Apply for a Standard Certificate

(Teacher, Principal, Educational Diagnostician and School Counselor)
  • Go to https://secure.sbec.state.tx.us/SBECOnline/login.asp
  • Enter User Name and Password in the boxes provided, then Click Login
  • From menu on the left of screen, click Applications
  • Click on Standard Certificate
  • Click on Apply for Certification
  • Answer the yes/no questions.
  • Under "I request to be recommended by this Entity"
    • Undergraduate & Graduate students select: The University of Texas Pan American (University Based) from the drop-down menu
    • Alternative Certification Program (ACP) students select: The University of Texas Pan American (Alternative) from the drop-down menu
  • Click Apply and pay for certificate by clicking “Pay Online Now

How to Apply for Reading Specialist/Master Reading Teacher Standard Certificates

  • Go to https://secure.sbec.state.tx.us/SBECOnline/login.asp
  • Enter User Name and Password in the boxes provided, then Click Login
  • From menu on the left of screen, click Applications
  • Click on Standard Certificate
  • Click on Apply for Certification
  • Answer the yes/no questions.
  • For Reading Specialist Certificate
    • Under "I request to be recommended by this Entity"
      • Select: The University of Texas Pan American (University Based) from the drop-down menu
  • For Master Reading Teacher Certificate
    • Under "I request to be recommended by this Entity"
      • Select: The University of Texas Pan American (Master Teacher) from the drop-down menu
  • Click Apply and pay for certificate by clicking “Pay Online Now

Documents REQUIRED for Recommendation to SBEC

Standard Initial Certification (Baccalaureates) submit:
  • Current official transcript sealed in an envelope documenting all courses taken for certification including date when degree was awarded
  • Educational Aide Exemption Program Award Letter from Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) – If Applicable
  • If you started Block 1 Spring 2009 or later, you are required to have 6 hours of TExES test preparation.
Standard Certification for Master Degree (Principal, School Counselor, Educational Diagnostician and Reading Specialist) submit:
  • Current official transcript sealed in an envelope documenting all courses taken for certification including date when degree was awarded
  • Copy of official degree plan (attach copy of substitution form approved for courses not taken on the degree plan)
  • Copy of service record from school district
  • Copy of Log Hours (Required for: Principal, Superintendent, School Counselor, Educational Diagnostician)
  • Students are required to complete 6 hours of TExES test preparation.
  • IMPORTANT NOTE:

    The University of Texas Pan American Alternative Certification Program:
    The University of Texas-Pan American Alternative Certification Program was discontinued in spring 2009. If you have any questions, call the Office of Teacher Certification and Admission Services.

    Deficiency Plans will not be honored by the University of Texas - Pan Amer
