Standard Certificate

Certification is a TWO-STEP Process:
  • Recommendation:
  • You must submit all required documents to The Office of Teacher Certification and Admission Services, EDCC 1.302.
  • Apply and Pay:
  • You must apply and pay online with the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) in order to be recommended for certification.

How to Apply for a Standard Certificate

  • Go to www.sbec.state.tx.us
  • To Create an Account, Click on New User?

    • Enter information and click Search
    • Complete Educator Profile Setup and click Continue
  • To login to previously created account, enter User Name and Password in the boxes provided, then Click Login
  • From menu on the left of screen, click Applications
  • Click on Standard Certificate
  • Click on Apply for Certification
  • Answer the yes/no questions.
  • Under "I request to be recommended by this Entity"
    • Undergraduate & Graduate students select: The University of Texas Pan American (University Based) from the drop-down menu
    • ACP Students select: The University of Texas Pan American (Alternative Program) from the drop-down menu
    • Master Reading Teachers ONLY select: The University of Texas Pan American (Master Teacher) from the drop-down menu
  • Click Apply
  • Pay for certificate by clicking “Pay Online Now
  • Submit required documents to The Office of Teacher Certification and Admission Services to be recommended to SBEC
  • You will receive an email from SBEC after you have been recommended

Documents REQUIRED for Recommendation to SBEC

Standard Initial Certification (Baccalaureates) submit:
  • Current official transcript documenting all courses taken for certification including date when degree was awarded
Standard Master Certification submit:
  • Current official transcript documenting all courses taken for certification including date when degree was awarded
  • Copy of official degree plan (attach copy of substitution form approved for courses not taken on the degree plan)
  • Copy of service record from school district
