OTCAS-Criminal Background Check - The University of Texas-Pan American

This background is required for Admission to Teacher Education and will ONLY be used for Admission purposes. An admission letter will not be printed or signed until FC Background returns a “cleared” background status.
Payment will be made directly to FC Backgrounds. Refer any questions regarding the Criminal Background Check to FC Background at 800-388-8827.
FCBackground will email you a “Background Report Notification” which you must submit along with your application to Teacher Education Programs.
Please allow 3-5 days for applicants who have only lived in Texas and 5-8 days for applicants who have lived outside of Texas.

A: Yes, it is an Admission requirement as stated on the application.
Q: What if I completed my background check in a previous semester?
A: As long as your background remains cleared, you do not need to submit a new request. Please be aware that the background is only valid for ONE year and you may be required to submit a new background check later throughout your program.
Q: Does a previous or school district background check count?
A: No, you must complete the nationwide background check provided by FC Background.
Q: When is the background check through FC Background due?
A: A request for a background check must be submitted to FC Background prior to turning in your application for Teacher Education Programs . You must go online to submit and pay for your background and receive a “Background Report Notification” to submit with your application.
Q: Which Program do I choose when submitting my background check information?
A: Choose “Undergraduate Teacher Education Program”.
Q: What will happen if I choose not to submit to a background check?
A: An application to Teacher Education programs will not be accepted without a copy of your “Background Report Notification” email.
Q: What is the cost of the background check?
A: There a charge of $37.89 for students who have lived only in Texas.
Q: What information is required to submit?
A: Only the information requested by FC Background is required. Read all the information provided before continuing to the next step.

A: You will need to call FC Backgrounds at 800-388-8827 and submit your information over the phone.
