Overview
Field experiences are an important part of a student’s preparation to become a successful
teacher. Teacher Educator Programs in Texas use Learner-Centered Proficiencies to guide pre-service
preparation, professional development and teacher appraisal practices. The Learner-Centered
Proficiencies for Texas Teachers articulate a vision of a learning community in which success for
students is paramount. These proficiencies reflect the desire of educators to work together to
build learner-centered schools.
Field Experiences are designed to allow pre-service teachers to work with Rio Grande Valley teachers
and students in our unique bicultural schools in ways that capitalize on students special strengths
and provide effective instructional practices to address areas of academic need.
The overarching goal of the Office of Field Experiences is to serve students by providing a
continuum of ongoing, relevant field-based experiences, including observation, teacher modeling
and demonstration of best practice to improve student learning in a variety of educational settings.
