Kappa Delta Pi Hosts 1st Annual Build-a-Book Event
On March 28, 2008, children of faculty and students from the College of Education attended a build a book event, where they were able to
create and author their own little books. Each child was able to purchase a kit that included craft materials and a spiral-bound blank book
in which they could make their creations. This event was sponsored by Kappa Delta Pi an International Honor Society in Education, and
coordinated and planned by Dr. Leticia De León, an active member of the organization for six years now. She was assisted during the
event by a group of dedicated and energetic volunteers composed of inductees and members of Kappa Delta Pi
The build a book event was intended to bring the College of Education community together in order to bring literacy to children whose
parents work or attend classes here. Over 40 children benefitted from this experience, which took place between 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
Book prizes were awarded every 30 minutes, and four children went home with a book of their choice.
This is the first time Kappa Delta Pi hosts a build a book party, but the organization hopes to continue offering this community event
every spring from now on.
