AVID Research
The AVID Center Special Research Projects Office has had a busy semester conducting focused research on
AVID programs and projects. Sessions and research findings have been presented at conferences across the
country, including the following:
- “AVID and AP in Texas: Four Years of Student Performance Data” was presented at the College Board’s 2008 Southwestern Regional Forum in Dallas, TX on February 1, 2008.
- “Easing the Transition: The Effects of High School Rigor and College Readiness Indicators on University Student Success” was presented at the 27th Annual Conference on The First-Year Experience in San Francisco, CA on February 18, 2008.
- “AVID Strategies and the Success of First Generation College-Goers” was presented at the 19th Annual Teaching Academic Survival Skills Conference in West Palm Beach, FL on March 4, 2008.
- “Enhancing Learning for Mexican American (Hispanic) Students in Gatekeeper Mathematics Courses” was presented at the 19th Annual Teaching Academic Survival Skills Conference in West Palm Beach, FL on March 4, 2008.
- “Review of AVID Research” was presented at a National Symposium of AVID’s Regional and District Directors in San Diego, CA on March 6, 2008.
