Assistant Professor – Theatre/Film/Television - Children's Theatre
The theatre/film/television area of the Department of Communication at The University of Texas-Pan American (UTPA) seeks an assistant professor (F10/11-10) beginning Fall 2011, with an expertise in children's theatre. Candidates should have the ability to teach a variety of theatre courses, have a successful track record as a writer-director of children's theatre, and be able to direct students on theses and research/creative projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for the children's theatre program and is expected to participate in tenureable creative/research activities in the area including directing an annual mainstage production. A sub specialty, like musical theatre, and some film/video experience as well as stage and screen acting would be pluses. It is important that the candidate be collegial and able to work well with other faculty and students, and experience dealing with Spanish/English speakers is important.
The Department of Communication has state-of-the-art facilities in theatre and television production. Administrative staff members are available to help faculty members apply for external research grants, and travel monies are available to support travel to academic and professional development conferences. A faculty development and mentor program is provided for all new faculty members. The department's graduate program is experiencing significant growth. The person who fills this position will play an integral part in the expanding graduate program.

Position requirements: Doctoral degree with emphasis in children's theatre plus experience in directing and writing children's theatre productions. Experience teaching at the college level and in musical theatre is required.
