Session Title and Description: Academic Reading Part 2 (2 hours): Academic Reading Part 2 explores various strategies to support students in the challenges of understanding and summarizing rigorous texts used in college courses. The strategies are layered to offer scaffolding for students to move from a literal account of the text to a higher-level summary that includes analysis and synthesis. Strategies for establishing a focus and purpose for reading by developing a reading prompt is discussed with the opportunity to write prompts for texts. Faculty and staff are encouraged to bring one or two copies of texts that they currently use in their courses. This session is appropriate for all faculty and instructors who need students to engage with texts and supplemental reading materials.

Note: If you did not attend Part 1, you may still attend Part 2.

Time: Session is 2 hours in duration. Two sessions will be offered: Session 1: 8:30- 10:30 or Session 2: 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. (Attend only 1 session; same material at each session)

Target Audience: Faculty, staff, tutors, and select mentor groups are encouraged to attend. Each session will accommodate up to 30 participants.
