Since the Fall of 2006, the State of Texas has enforced an Excess Hours Policy for students attending public colleges and universities within the state. The excess hours are calculated on the number of hours required for a student to complete their specific major requirements. If a student exceeds the excess hours limit, it does not mean they cannot enroll in courses; however they will be charged the designated excess hour fee.

The current Excess Hour charge of $90 has been extended through Summer 2014 and will increase significantly effective Fall 2014.

•Information sessions will be held this month to update UTPA students on the Excess Hours Policy.
