This is a reminder that the construction of a 334 space parking project that is currently taking place just north of the College of Business Building and the Central Utility (Cooling) Plant will require Van Week Street to be closed.
Beginning Saturday, June 22nd, Van Week Street will be closed temporarily between the Math and General Classroom Building (MAGC) and the Central Utility (Cooling) Plant for utility improvements. This road closure, identified by the red markings on the attached map, will restrict vehicular access to the College of Business Building and the Library and will be limited to construction personnel and emergency vehicles only.
In addition to the 334 new parking spaces, the project will include:
- A well-lit pedestrian mall, complete with benches, with a park-like feel
- Improved traffic flow with an additional northern access to point to Schunior Road
- Improvements to address drainage concerns affecting the north quadrant of the campus
Please refer to the link listed below for the specific location.
Van Week Closure
Handicap accessible parking impacted by the road closure will be relocated to the north side of the Education Building in parking lot “E1” and directly north of Health Sciences and Human Services West (HSHW) in parking lot “D”.
This construction is projected to last approximately three months to coincide with the start of the 2013 fall semester. Approximate closure end date is August 20th. If you have any questions about this project, please feel free to contact Oscar Villarreal, Director of Facilities Management, at (956) 665-2770 for assistance.
