A Film Screening and Panel Discussion
on Ethnic Studies
Featuring Tony Díaz and UTPA Faculty
The UTPA Mexican American Studies Club and the ACLU of Texas present the film PRECIOUS KNOWLEDGE and a panel discussion featuring Tony Díaz, “El Librotraficante.” The film is a documentary about revolutionary education. PRECIOUS KNOWLEDGE uncovers the social consequences of the banning of ethnic studies in the Tucson Unified School District, Arizona. Mr. Díaz has countered the attacks on ethnic studies through his efforts to smuggle banned books into affected communities. The panel discussion after the film also includes UTPA MAS faculty Dr. Stephanie Alvarez, Dr. Maritza de la Trinidad, Dr. Francisco Guajardo, and Dr. Marci McMahon. A reception follows the film and panel discussion in the MAS office EDCC 2.216B.
