The Network Services Department will be working towards enabling the SafeConnect network access control solution at the Physics & Geology (PHYS), Learning Assistance Center (LEAC), Van Week Office (VWOF), and Lamar (LAMR) buildings.

We will be starting with the following buildings:

Physics & Geology Building on November 7th at 9:00AM
Van Week Office on November 8th at 9:00AM
Lamar Building on November 14th at 9:00AM
Learning Assistance Center on November 15th at 9:00AM.

The SafeConnect network access control solution is being deployed to secure access to UTPA’s network resources to UTPA’s students, faculty, and staff.

SafeConnect is a network access control (NAC) device that helps ensure those individuals who are connecting to the UTPA network meet our minimum security standards. SafeConnect accomplishes this by requiring that all Windows and Macintosh devices install a small security PolicyKey Agent on the computer after authenticating with your UTPA username and password. Before authentication and policy key installation, all Internet access will be restricted to the UTPA homepage and sites allowing you to meet the current UTPA security standards.

If your computer is not in the domain, you will be prompted at the web browser to authenticate with your UTPA ID and password. You will also be prompted with instructions on installing the policy key agent. If you are in the domain, you may or may not be prompted to install the policy key agent as it should have already been installed to your PC through Systems Management Server.
