The WRSC will be hosting the first annual Valley Fit conference on Saturday August 11th from 9am - 3pm. (Open to the Public). Valley Fit is fitness conference designed for current, future, and regular fitness enthusists.
Cost of Valley Fit is $12.00. Early registration (before July 15th) includes a fitness tank or T-shirt, lunch, and conference. Register at the WRSC member services desk.

AQUA FIT Angie Garza – Summit Health & Fitness Club
Combination of cardio, strength & resistance, and range of motion to give you a full body work-out! Suitable for all populations including athletes, the aging adult, post injury, and those just looking for something new! Water resistance tools to be utilized for resistance training. Bring a swimsuit to participate.
BELLY FIT Brenda Diaz & Paul Valdez - University of Texas Pan-American Wellness & Rec Sports
Shake and shimmy the pounds away. In this class participants will learn how to perform the fundamental core movements in the art of belly dancing. Participants will also learn how to link movements together to form a Belly Fit class.
CORE STRENGTH VINYASA YOGA Joy Hardwicke - University of Texas Pan-American Wellness & Rec Sports
Core Strength Vinyasa Yoga is a perspective on yoga developed by Sadie Nardini. In this class format we focus on utilizing the deep core muscles to support the body in both postures and transitions. Students will learn to build a yoga pose through three steps: Foundation, Core, and Expression. By the end of the class students will have an understanding of the core breath, how the core can support the body, and how foundation, core, and expression help build a stronger, safer, and more comfortable yoga postures.
CROSS-FIT Miguel De La Fuente & Polly De La Fuente – Ranger Cross Fit High-intensity strength and conditioning program that combines power lifting, gymnastics, plyometrics, and more to train individuals to be strong in all areas of fitness.
EXERCISE FOR SPECIAL POPULATIONS Miguel De La Fuente – Ranger Cross Fit
Do you have a client that is rehabbing from an injury or is disabled? Are there pregnant women in your group exercise classes? Have you been asked to develop an exercise program for an obese individuals or small children? Where do you even start? This presentation will cover current exercise recommendations for a wide variety of special populations and offer ideas in programming training sessions suitable for special populations.
FITNESS BOOT CAMP Jorge Vela – Explosive Fitness
This boot camp presentation will cover various components of fitness. Including strength, endurance, agility, core/functional work, flexibility and team competition. The objective is to provide a strong basis for strength and endurance as we create challenging activities to increase caloric expenditure while distracting from the total body functional strength task being performed.
INCREASING CLIENT SATISFACTION AND RETENTION THROUGH MASSAGE THERAPY AND RECUPERATIVE MODATITIES Rafael A. Curiel – Independent Certified Personal Trainer and Certified Massage Therapist Empower clients to take control of the recuperation process before the next training sessions by looking at foam rolling, PNF stretching, cryotherapy, self massage, professional massage and tens unit.

LIVE, BREATH, COMPETE! German Madrazo – Valley Running Company Endurance races and activities are on the rise in the RGV. Discover how to effectively train, motivate, and develop clients’ abilities to compete in running races and Triathlons. This class will focus on development of a training program, injury prevention, equipment selection, and motivational strategies.
NUTRITION FOR DAILY LIVING Peter Cacares – Olympian Fitness from Port Isabel
The presentation will define nutrition, nutrients, calories as well as caloric values of food. It will also discuss different type of diets and how to read nutrition labels to make informed food choices.

PROPER BODY MECHANICS FOR TRUE STRENGTH & IMPROVED RESULTS Jorge Vela – Explosive Fitness

The main purpose of Silver Sneakers is to keep our senior population active and healthy as they age. Learn how to effectively communicate, engage, and lead a safe group exercise class for the older adult. Class will focus on range of motion, coordination, balance, and resistance; all elements necessary to maintain independence, mobility, and overall health.

TRAIN HARD OR GO HOME! Jamie Cavazos – Cavazos Sports Performance Institute
Athletes are devoted and passionate about improving their performance in their given sport. Learn about techniques and strategies to develop a plan that is sport specific. As an example for sport specific training participants will engage in a workout aimed at improving performance in basketball.
TURBO KICKÔ Colette Cabot – University of Texas Pan-American Wellness & Rec Sports
Jab, cross, pump, twist! NOT an ordinary cardio kickboxing class. Turbo Kick is a kickboxing PARTY! Participants will learn about the Turbo Kick class design, signature moves, build up of choreography, and how to transform a “group exercise class” into an explosive PARTY!
WOMEN ON WEIGHTS Marissa Garza – University of Texas-Brownsville Campus Recreation
Gain the confidence and knowledge necessary to navigate your way through a weight room. This session will banish the misconception that women who weight-train will “bulk up” and lose their femininity. Come learn the importance of incorporating strength training into your exercise routine.
ZUMBA ALL STARS TBA – Various Instructors from several Fitness Facilities Several local Zumba instructors will strut their stuff as they perform original choreography to some of the hottest songs.
