During the maintenance window Internet connectivity will go up and down intermittently as we proceed with testing.  This maintenance work will not impact intra-campus network communication or any other campus network services.  This work will impact the UTPA campus only.

Should you experience any problems after this maintenance window, please contact the Helpdesk at extension x2020.  In addition, please feel free to forward this information to staff and faculty in your departments who may find this information pertinent.

General MAINTENANCE - South Texas Lambda Ring Migration

Good afternoon everyone!

Our Internet Service Provider has scheduled maintenance for this week to install new equipment on the South Texas Lambda ring as per the schedule below. The maintenance will start each day at 11:59pm with a four hour maintenance window.

Monday February 1, 2010 – San Antonio to Corpus Christi
Tuesday February 2, 2010 – Corpus Christi to Harlingen to McAllen
Wednesday February 3, 2010 – McAllen to Laredo
Thursday February 4, 2010 – Laredo to San Antonio

The scope of work involves installing new equipment at each of the points of presence (POPs) at each city listed above and swinging fiber from the old to the new equipment on the ring.

Even though Internet connectivity could be affected during this maintenance window, we don’t expect this to be a problem due to redundant connections. Nevertheless, short Internet service interruptions are possible during this maintenance window. Please note, however, that the only service impacted by this work will be Internet connectivity as it will affect network infrastructure outside the UTPA.  Intra-campus network communication should not be affected.  This work will affect all UT & TAMU institutions in the Rio Grande Valley, Laredo, and Corpus Christi.

Should you experience any problems after this maintenance window, please contact the Helpdesk at extension x2020.  In addition, please feel free to forward this information to staff and faculty in your departments who may find this information pertinent.  Thank you.

Wireless Network Upgrade - Winter Break

Good morning,

The Network Services Department will be upgrading the UTPA wireless network throughout the Winter Break.  Starting December 21st we will be replacing over 300 wireless access points all through campus.  We expect to finish replacing access points the second week in January in time for the start of the Spring 2010 semester.

During this time there is a slight chance that you may experience some wireless connectivity issues.  This would only occur during the time of the actual installation of the new access point, given the fact that it will need to go through a short “boot up” process once powered. Such periods should last no more than a minute.  Please bear with us as we will make every effort to minimize the impact to the UTPA community. Please note ONLY the wireless network will be impacted by this work. All other intra-campus and Internet connectivity should not be affected.

Should you experience any problems, especially after January 15, 2010, please contact the Helpdesk at extension x2020. In addition, please feel free to forward this information to staff and faculty in your departments who may find this information pertinent.
