Campus Network Maintenance - Tuesday December 8th, 2009 @ 11:59pm

The Network Services Department, in collaboration with the Information Security Office, has scheduled campus firewall maintenance for December 8th, 2009. The work is scheduled to start at 11:59pm. We expect this work to be completed within one hour, but we are giving ourselves a two hour maintenance window to address any unforeseen difficulties that may arise in the process.

During this maintenance window Internet connectivity will go up and down intermittently as we proceed with testing. This maintenance will not impact intra-campus network communication or any other campus network services. This work will impact the UTPA campus only.

Network Maintenance - Sunday November 22nd, 2009 at 7:00am

The Network Services Department has scheduled campus network maintenance for Sunday November 22nd, 2009. The work is slated to begin at 7:00am with a two hour maintenance window. We expect this work to be completed within an hour, but we are giving ourselves a two hour maintenance window to address any unforeseen difficulties that may arise in the process.

 
During this maintenance window network and Internet connectivity will be unavailable for the following buildings: Student Services building, Executive Tower, Visitors Center, Administration building, and the Administrative Annex. Please note all other areas of campus will be un-affected.

Internet Connectivity General: MAINTENANCE: Valley VTXC Ring Test

Good afternoon everyone!

Please refer to network maintenance notification below from our Internet Service Provider.  This maintenance has been scheduled for Tuesday night November 17th at 11:59pm with a maintenance window of 4 hours.

 
The scope of work involves testing the path between San Antonio and Corpus Christi to re-establish the auto protection features of the South Texas Lambda ring. 

During this maintenance window our Internet connectivity will be affected intermittently. Please note, however, that the only service impacted by this work will be Internet connectivity as it will affect network infrastructure outside the UTPA.  Intra-campus network communication should not be affected.  This work will affect all UT & TAMU institutions in the Rio Grande Valley, Laredo, and Corpus Christi.

Telephone System Upgrade - Campus Wide - Friday October 23rd, 2009 at 7:00pm

Good afternoon everyone

Telephone Services will be upgrading the Telephone System’s software, operating system, and hardware on Friday October 23, 2009 after 7:00 pm.
 
We expect to have rolling outages across campus as equipment is worked on, but any one telephone station should only be affected for a period of approximately 5 minutes when the telephone port is migrated to new equipment. We are setting aside an 8 hour window to address any unforeseen events that may surface during this upgrade, but we expect to complete the upgrade within 4 hours.
 
The first telephone stations to be migrated will be the UTPA Police Department’s emergency number and all emergency telephones and elevator emergency telephones across campus.

Emergency Network Maintenance

Good afternoon everyone!

Please refer to emergency network maintenance notification below from our Internet Service Provider (ISP).
 
Our South Texas Transport Provider will be doing emergency network maintenance on Artesia Wells amplifier site to remedy a network problem. 
 
This work is scheduled for tonight September 3rd at 11:30pm with a maintenance window of two hours to mitigate any unforeseen difficulties which may arise in the process. The expected network down time is expected to be no more than 5 minutes.
 
During the maintenance window, all UT institutions and customers in the Rio Grande Valley and Corpus Christi will experience a brief Internet outage as the equipment is worked on. Refer to notification below for additional details. 
 
Please note this work will only impact Internet & Internet2 access. It will not impact any UTPA intra-campus communication as it involves equipment configuration outside the campus.

VTXC will do an emergency maintenance tonight at the Artesia Wells amplifier site to remedy a threshold alarm. At this time the alarm is not a service affecting. However, VTXC would like to take care of this situation as soon as possible.
 
The spans between Laredo and San Antonio will have to be put Out-of-Service to balance the light levels around the South Texas Ring.
 
This work should be service affecting for five (5) minutes or less. However, one and one-half hours (1.5) has been reserved for unforeseen problems.
 

FW: THEnet alert [Alert 220]: General: MAINTENANCE: South Texas DWDM Ring - Revised

Good afternoon everyone!

Please refer to network maintenance notification below from our Internet Service Provider (ISP).
 
Our ISP will be working with their South Texas Transport Provider to re-route customer circuits from McAllen to Laredo to San Antonio to restore protection to the South Texas Lambda (DWDM) ring. 
 
This work has been scheduled for Wednesday night September 2nd at 11:30pm with a maintenance window of four hours to mitigate any unforeseen difficulties which may arise in the process. 
 
During the maintenance window, all UT & TAMU institutions in the Rio Grande Valley, Laredo, and Corpus Christi will experience Internet outages as circuits are re-routed. Refer to notification below for additional details. 
 
Please note this work will only impact Internet & Internet2 (external) access. It will not impact any UTPA intra-campus communication as it involves equipment configuration and circuits outside the campus.

OTS will work with VTX to re-route OTS customer circuits from McAllen to Laredo to San Antonio. This work will re-establish protection on the South Texas DWDM Ring for all users.
 
The move to the new Fiber Optic Cable path will take approximately fifteen (15) minutes. However, in case of difficulty OTS reserves 4 hours.
