Forums set to discuss increase in designated tuition and fees at UTPA

The University of Texas-Pan American's Cost of Education Committee is soliciting input from students, faculty, staff and the community on a proposal to increase designated tuition and fees that would take effect Fiscal Year 2011-2012. The Cost of Education Committee which is recommending the increase is hosting community forums Nov. 9, 10 and 11.

Since 2000, there has been a steady decrease in funding from the state pressuring the University to depend more heavily on designated tuition. Read More

Cooperative Ph.D. program in Spanish receives $297,000 grant

The University of Texas-Pan American was recently awarded a $297,000 grant to strengthen the cooperative Ph.D. program in Spanish between UTPA and the University of Houston. The grant, which was awarded by the Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE), will be used to improve the existing program and expand it to other disciplines. Read More

UTPA SAT Prep Program

South Texas students seeking to raise their SAT scores in preparation for college applications can now participate in the SAT Prep Program being offered for the first time at The University of Texas-Pan American. The initial course for UTPA SAT Prep Program will begin July 22. The Office of Continuing Education at UTPA has teamed up with Knowsys Test Prep LLC to offer the course, which is similar to ones offered at other universities in Texas, including Baylor University and the University of Houston.

In addition to the in-class instruction, students also receive a complete Online College Readiness Course that includes preparation for the SAT, the ACT, and the PSAT plus practice AP and SAT II exams, a college search engine, a career interest inventory, a scholarship search database, and chances to win scholarships.

The fee for the course is only $500 for those who register by July 20th. The onsite registration fee is $545, so students can save by registering early. Call the Office of Continuing Education at 381-3661 or visit: www.utpa.edu/ce for more information and class schedule.
