A new student organization has joined the CoBA family: The Collegiate Entrepreneurs’ Organization or CEO. The mission of the organization “is to inform, support and inspire college students to be entrepreneurial and seek opportunity through enterprise creation” and was originated as a project for the founding group’s Small Business Management course.
The first official meeting of CEO is scheduled for Monday, November 9 in BUSA 110. Membership in CEO is open to all UTPA students interested in entrepreneurial activities. Joining CEO will help, educate, mentor and inspire all who have a dream to start their own business some day, said CEO vice president Michelle Lopez.
Benefits from membership in CEO include career opportunities, development of leadership skills, networking, achieving an entrepreneurial spirit, the chance to gain real business experience, as well as opportunities to attend workshops and conferences.
Being a founding member of this new organization on campus has been an exciting journey as we have learned to apply theory into real life practice, said CEO’s newly elected president Tony De La Cruz and Lopez. Already, two of the group’s members have had the privilege of meeting Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple Computers.
The local chapter is affiliated with the National Collegiate Entrepreneurs’ Organization which currently serves more than 150 colleges and universities globally.
