The University of Texas-Pan American
8AM - 5PM
The first annual Diabetes Symposium: Focusing on Children with Diabetes will be held at The University of Texas-Pan American on Saturday, May 26. The symposium is the first of its kind in the Rio Grande Valley and is open to parents, health care providers, educators, and others in the community interested in helping children with diabetes and their families manage life with this chronic disease.
The symposium will feature presentations by diabetes experts, including Dr. Stephen Ponder, pediatric endocrinologist and clinical professor at Texas Tech Health Sciences Center, Drew Holder, former Houston Astros player and Type 1 diabetic, and researchers affiliated with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
Also, as part of the symposium we will be hosting a FREE Health & Wellness Kids Camp for children age 6-14 at the UTPA Wellness and Recreational Sports Complex while parents attend the symposium. When registering for the event, you will be asked if any children will be attending the camp while you attend the symposium.
