LADY BRONCS FALL

EDINBURG, TX-Texas A&M-Kingsville came back to take the fifth and final game and outlasted The University of Texas-Pan American, 30-24, 21-30, 30-28, 33-35 and 15-13, in their volleyball match at the UTPA Fieldhouse Tuesday evening.

Junior outside hitter Jaclyn Muszynski (Walnut, CA/Walnut HS) led Texas-Pan American with 24 kills, and was one of four Lady Broncs with 15 or more kills. Junior outside hitter Winker Cruz (Harlingen, TX/Harlingen South HS) had 22 kills and 24 digs, sophomore outside hitter Cathi Netemeyer (Los Fresnos, TX/Los Fresnos HS/Iowa) had 13 kills and 15 digs, and freshman setter Katie Burke (Georgetown, TX/Georgetown HS) had 67 assists and 21 digs.

Stephanie Briscoe led the Lady Javelinas with 20 kills, Trina Ervin added 15, and Jamie Alvarado contributed 11. Kathy Stephenson had 28 digs, while Jennifer Elliott added 22.

“Kingsville came out very aggressively against us, and we weren’t able to match their aggressiveness for sustained periods of time,” said UTPA Head Coach Dave Thorn. “Three of the games were decided by two points. We just failed to convert on our opportunities when we needed to, and it was costly.”

The Lady Broncs fell to 1-10 with the defeat, while TAMUK improved to 7-6. Texas-Pan American will play Tulsa, Wyoming and Texas Southern this weekend in the Islander Classic in Corpus Christi.
