LADY BRONCS GET READY FOR OPENER, SCRIMMAGE CANCELLED

EDINBURG, TX- The University of Texas-Pan American’s volleyball team is a little over a week away from their season opener.

The Lady Broncs will play San Diego, Virginia and Texas in the Time Warner Cable Texas Invitational next weekend.

With six newcomers, the Lady Broncs have been working on fundamentals during their early practices. “Our team is coming together pretty well, considering the number of new players that we have,” said Thorn. “We’re starting to look like a unit.”

Texas-Pan American had planned a Green and White scrimmage this Saturday evening, but it has been called off. “We’re going to cancel the scrimmage, since we’ve had a couple of people sick, and a couple of people banged up,” said Thorn. “With new setters this year, (Assistant Coach) Fabiana (de Abreu) has been training our setters, and her expertise in that area has really helped out. Our setters have been improving by leaps and bounds. We’re gearing everything towards getting ready for our first game next weekend.”

The first match at Texas is set for next Friday morning. UTPA will open at home against Texas Southern Tuesday evening, September 10th.
