BRONCS ALIVE IN CONSOLATION ROUND

WACO, TX-All four participants from The University of Texas-Pan American men's tennis team are still in contention in the consolation round of the HEB Baylor Intercollegiate Tournament at the Baylor Tennis Center after Friday's first day of action.

Sophomore Filip Koziell (Calgary, Alberta/Bishop Carroll HS) defeated Luis Morris of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 6-3, 6-1, then lost to D.J. Spice of Wake Forest, 6-4, 6-4 in Flight A singles competition. Sophomore Jeremy Salvo (Coquitlam, British Columbia/Centennial Secondary) lost to Barry McLaren of Baylor, 6-3, 6-4 and defeated Jon Jenkin of Texas-San Antonio, 6-4, 6-3. Senior Neil Barraclough (Coventry, England/Cardinal Newman HS/Seward County Community College) defeated Thatcher Cribbs of Lamar, 6-2, 6-0 and lost to Pepe Mendoza of Texas Christian, 7-5, 6-4. Freshman Oliver Steil (Brunssum, The Netherlands/AF North International School) lost to Chad Tsuda of Colorado, 6-1, 6-4.

"Everyone is still alive, because they have a feed-in consolation system, where everyone who lost on the first day gets to play again," said UTPA Head Coach Todd Chapman. "We played pretty well today, but we still have to work on our consistency and our mental game. We played some good tennis. The competition was great, we had some good showings, now we have to try to put everything together."

Competition continues Saturday with consolation action in singles and the first and second round of doubles.
