UT Pan American Track and Field Announces Signing of Edinburg Native Amy Moses
EDINBURG The University
of Texas-Pan American Track and Field program announced on Wednesday the signing
of Edinburg, native Amy Moses to a letter of intent for the 2000-01 academic
year.
Moses has been a standout at nearby Edinburg North High School for the last two years, qualifying for the Texas State Meet this past season. Moses advanced to the state meet in the discus and took fifth place overall with a throw of 127 1. She was also named ENHS Track and Field Most Valuable Player as a senior. At the Region IV meet last season she finished fourth in the shot put and took second in the discus. As a junior she took third in the discus and sixth in the shot put at the Region IV meet.
She won the discus in each of her last two years at ENHS and took second in the shot put both years as well. Her career best for the discus is 136 4, while her longest throw in the shot put is 42 5.5.
That's something that we've worked hard to do - keep the talent that's here, here at home, UTPA Coach Dan Laufer said. Amy comes from a good program and that makes my job a lot easier. Ideally, (the discus) is her sport. The discus is where she can eventually compete nationally, depending on how she responds.
Not only a strong track and field athlete, Moses was a standout for the ENHS soccer team. She was an All-Region IV selection at goalkeeper for North. Moses is a native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, but immigrated to south Texas in 1998.
Moses is the ninth signee by the cross-country and track programs so far this spring. She joins previous track and field signees Rashaad Ben, Valerie Summa, April Hipolito, Angelica Garza, Michael Sperry, Phillip Wilhelmsson, Andrea Cartwright and Lovie Mathis who have already joined the Broncs and Lady Broncs for the 2000-01 season.
