Dana Colligan Gutierrez Resigns as UT Pan American Track and Field Head Coach

EDINBURG – Dana Colligan Gutierrez, who has been head coach for the University of Texas-Pan American Cross Country and Track and Field programs for the last three years, resigned to accept a position on the coaching staff at Long Beach State it was announced on Saturday.

A graduate of the University of Maryland, Colligan Gutierrez has helped to turn the track and field and cross country programs into regionally competitive teams over the last three years.  Four different UTPA athletes set school records during the 1999-2000 season.  She has previously served on the coaching staff at Swarthmore College (Division III), Butler University and Northern Arizona.

“Coach Colligan Gutierrez has made a significant contribution to the continued development of both our men’s and women’s track and field/cross country programs during her tenure as head coach at UTPA,” said Athletic Director William Weidner.  “We wish Dana continued success in all of her future endeavors.”

Weidner said that a national search for a new track and field/cross country head coach will begin immediately.
