Three UT Pan American Track and Field Athletes Win Events at Sam Houston State Quad Meet

HUNTSVILLE -- Gonzalo Gonzalez, Eugene Asare-Mensah and David Ozuna all picked up individual wins to lead the way for the University of Texas-Pan American Track and Field team at the Piney Woods Intercollegiate Track and Field Meet held at Bowers Stadium on the campus of Sam Houston State University on Saturday.

Gonzalez, a senior from La Joya, won the shot put with a throw of 52-11 1/2, his best effort of the season.  The mark was also just 3 1/2 inches off his school record.  Gonzalez also took second in the discus with a throw of 143-3.  Asare-Mensah, a senior from Accra, Ghana, won the triple jump with a leap of 39-10 1/2.  Ozuna, a senior from Corpus Christi, won the 400 meter intermediate hurdles with a time of 57.45.

There were other strong performances turned in the by the Broncs and Lady Broncs on Saturday.  Danny Salazar finished third in the men's 3,000 meter with a time of 9:23.37.  Adrian Palacios took fourth in the 800 meter with a 1:56.59.  Perla Rios and Sandy Guerrero took second and third, respectively in the women's 5,000 meter run.

The Broncs and Lady Broncs will return to action in the Houston Invitational on May 6th.
