UT Pan American Women’s Golf
Finishes Seventh at Lady Cardinal Invitational
BEAUMONT, TEXAS – Freshman Melissa
Head finished 14th overall in her first collegiate tournament,
helping the University of Texas-Pan American women’s golf team to a seventh
place finish at the Lady Cardinal Invitational, played at the Beaumont Country
Club.
Head, a native of Oklahoma City,
Okla., shot a final round 84 to post a three-round total of 246.
She finished 18 strokes out of first place.
Her second round 78 was the lowest single round for a Lady Bronc in the
tournament. Senior Tootie Lauzon
was the second Lady Bronc finisher, shooting a 259 for 26th place.
Adriana Espinoza and Itziar Unanue tied for 32nd and Jeannie
Lane was 47th.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi’s
Alessandra Perez came from four strokes back to win medallist honors for the
tournament with a 228 for the three-round tournament. Perez fired the lowest single round of the tournament, a 73,
in the final round to defeat Maria Jonsdottir of Lamar, who took second with a
231. Tiffany Nelson of Sam Houston
State was third with a 234.
Sam Houston State also pulled off a
came-from-behind win with a final round 307, the lowest team round of the
tournament, to defeat host Lamar 954 to 962.
Lamar shot a final round 324 to finish eight strokes behind SHSU.
Oral Roberts took third with a 990, McLennan Junior College was fourth
with a 999, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi was fifth with a 1000, McNeese State
was sixth with a 1006, UTPA was seventh with a 1031, Wyoming was eighth with a
1033, Centenary was ninth with a 1086 and Texas Lutheran was 10th
with a 1111.
The Lady Broncs will return to action on October 2nd and 3rd at the Lady Razorback Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark.
