UT Pan American Women's Golf Stands Seventh After First Day of Lady Cardinal Invitational
BEAUMONT, TEXAS -- A pair of freshmen led the way for the University of Texas-Pan American women's golf team, which is in seventh place after the first day of the Lady Cardinal Inviational, hosted by Lamar University, Monday at the Beaumont Country Club.
Melissa Head, a freshman from Oklahoma City, Okla., is the Lady Broncs top golfer after two rounds. Head, playing in her first collegiate tournament, is tied for ninth place overall at 162 (84-78). Next for the Lady Broncs is Itziar Unanue, a freshman from Monterrey, Mexico, is tied for 28th with a 172. She is followed by Tootie Lauzon (30th), Adrianna Espinoza (33rd) and Jeannie Lane (43rd).
Leading the way among the individuals is Maria Jonsdottir of host Lamar. Jonsdottir is running away with the tournament through two rounds with a total of 151 (+7). Alessandra Perez of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi is in second with a 156, while Tessie Simar of McNeese State is third with a 156.
Lamar is also leading among the teams with a nine stroke lead over Sam Houston State. Lamar has a 638 total, including the low round of the tournament, a 309. Sam Houston State is second with a 647, McNeese State is third with a 658, Oral Roberts is fourth with a 667, McLennan Junior College is fifth with a 668, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi is sixth with a 673 and UTPA is seventh with a 683.
Play wraps up with the third round Tuesday morning at the Beaumont Country Club.
