LADY BRONCS LOSE TO RHODE ISLAND

KINGSTON,RI-The University of Texas-Pan American women’s basketball team couldn’t overcome a slow start against host Rhode Island at Keaney Gymnasium Saturday afternoon.

The Rams scored the first 13 points of the game, built a 35-20 halftime lead, and defeated the Lady Broncs, 72-43.

Senior forward Kelli Kreuser (Bettendorf, IA/Davenport North HS/Truman State University) scored 10 of UTPA’s points in the first half, making four of nine shots from the field.

Kreuser ended up as the Lady Broncs’ leading scorer with 14 points. She added four assists and three steals. Junior forward Naima Williams (Houston, TX/Clear Brook HS) added 12 points and seven steals.

Yatar Kuyateh led URI with 24 points and 13 rebounds, Shayla Johnson added 17 points, and Hilary Goodrich added 14. Neda Djuric had 12 assists and five steals.

With the defeat, the Lady Broncs fell to 5-17, while Rhode Island improved to 10-8. UTPA will return to action when they visit Centenary next Wednesday evening at 5:00 p.m.
