LADY BRONC VOLLEYBALL TEAM ADDS KATIE BURKE

EDINBURG, TX-The University of Texas-Pan American has signed its first recruit of the spring signing period.

The Lady Broncs have added Katie Burke, a setter from Georgetown High School in Georgetown, Texas. Burke will enter UTPA as a freshman this fall, with four years of eligibility.

Burke averaged 8.1 assists per game for Georgetown High School, leading her team to a perfect 10-0 district record, and the district championship. She earned first team All-District honors as a senior, was named the Outstanding Setter in District 13-5A, and served as team captain

As a junior, Burke earned honorable mention All-District honors, as her team went undefeated in district play. She also lettered in track and field, qualifying for the regional championships in the 100 meter hurdles. A good student, Burke twice was named Academic All-District. She also played for the Austin Juniors club volleyball team.

“Katie comes to us from a top club program, and she will bring a lot of skill and experience to the Lady Bronc volleyball program,” said UTPA Head Coach Dave Thorn. “She’s a very good athlete, as well as a very good student. Katie has good size for a setter. She handles the ball very well near the net, and is used to running a quick offense, which is what we run here at UTPA. We’re looking forward to her joining the team this fall.”
