TEAM ADDS KATIE BURKE
EDINBURG, TX-The University of Texas-Pan American
has signed its first recruit of the spring signing period. The Lady Broncs have added Katie Burke, a setter
from Georgetown High School in Georgetown, Texas. Burke will enter UTPA
as a freshman this fall, with four years of eligibility. Burke averaged 8.1 assists per game for Georgetown
High School, leading her team to a perfect 10-0 district record, and the
district championship. She earned first team All-District honors as a
senior, was named the Outstanding Setter in District 13-5A, and served
as team captain As a junior, Burke earned honorable mention
All-District honors, as her team went undefeated in district play. She
also lettered in track and field, qualifying for the regional
championships in the 100 meter hurdles. A good student, Burke twice was
named Academic All-District. She also played for the Austin Juniors club
volleyball team. “Katie comes to us from a top club program, and
she will bring a lot of skill and experience to the Lady Bronc
volleyball program,” said UTPA Head Coach Dave Thorn. “She’s a
very good athlete, as well as a very good student. Katie has good size
for a setter. She handles the ball very well near the net, and is used
to running a quick offense, which is what we run here at UTPA. We’re
looking forward to her joining the team this fall.”
