LADY BRONCS SIGN JACKIE SANCHEZ FOR FALL, 2002

EDINBURG-The University of Texas-Pan American volleyball team has added its first recruit for the fall.

Middle blocker Jackie Sanchez of Schaumburg, IL and Schaumburg High School will join the Lady Broncs next season. She will enter as a freshman, with four years of eligibility.

Sanchez is six feet tall. At Schaumburg, she averaged 3.73 kills, 1.1 blocks, 4.81 digs and 0.78 service aces per game, while hitting .224. She was named to the Daily Herald All-Area Team, was named to the Academic All-Area Team, and received the Varsity Coaches’ Award.

Sanchez led her team with 92 blocks this season, the second highest total in school history. She twice had seven blocks in a match, and had 24 digs in a match. Both of those totals led the team. She also played from the Sports Performance club team, one of the highest-rated club teams in the nation.

“Jackie will bring a lot of size and athleticism to our program,” said UTPA Head Coach Dave Thorn. “She has been well-coached in high school and club ball, and should be able to make an immediate impact. Jackie is a smart offensive player and will help add depth to our middle blocker position.”
