SANCHEZ FOR FALL, 2002
EDINBURG-The University of Texas-Pan American
volleyball team has added its first recruit for the fall. Middle blocker Jackie Sanchez of Schaumburg, IL and
Schaumburg High School will join the Lady Broncs next season. She will
enter as a freshman, with four years of eligibility. Sanchez
is six feet tall. At Schaumburg, she averaged 3.73 kills, 1.1 blocks,
4.81 digs and 0.78 service aces per game, while hitting .224. She was
named to the Daily Herald All-Area Team, was named to the
Academic All-Area Team, and received the Varsity Coaches’ Award. Sanchez
led her team with 92 blocks this season, the second highest total in
school history. She twice had seven blocks in a match, and had 24 digs
in a match. Both of those totals led the team. She also played from the
Sports Performance club team, one of the highest-rated club teams in the
nation. “Jackie
will bring a lot of size and athleticism to our program,” said UTPA
Head Coach Dave Thorn. “She has been well-coached in high school and
club ball, and should be able to make an immediate impact. Jackie is a
smart offensive player and will help add depth to our middle blocker
