M. Nuņez
This past summer, Nuņez interned with the National Science Foundation in Washington, D.C. as a Networking Engineer. There he performed various activities related to wireless access ports. He was given the responsibility of developing web pages to assist users in using various applications and hardware by converting comprehensive and mixed documentation consisting of word, excel, pdf and text to a unified word document. He also conducted a wireless survey of the NSF environment, measuring signal strengths from various wireless access ports and deploying equipment to provide optimum coverage for their critical areas. The work was complex because of the number of wireless networks NSF supports in addition to the different vendor types of access ports they have. He also worked on an inventory of the corporate workstations which have been identified as borderline for installation of software upgrades. He was in charge of analyzing the configurations and interviewing the users to determine if a potential problem existed. He also determined if the user's computer needed to be replaced or if hardware upgrades or configuration changes to accommodate the deficiencies were needed. In the summer of 2000, Nuņez interned with the United States Department of Agriculture in New Orleans, LA as a Telecommunication Analyst Assistant. There he continuously maintained network circuits in the Telecommunications Department by tracking and identifying system components. His other responsibilities included the updating of domain name system entries and other duties as assigned. Nuņez is currently a senior majoring in Computer Information Systems. He plans to graduate in May 2002. |
