UTPA Men’s Tennis Hosts Southland Conference Foe Louisiana-Monroe Tuesday

EDINBURG – The University of Texas-Pan American men’s tennis team will host a pivotal Southland Conference match on Tuesday when Louisiana-Monroe comes to the Cox Tennis Courts at 2:30 p.m.

The Broncs, who are currently 1-2 in Southland Conference play, are coming off a tough 5-2 loss to UT-Arlington in Arlington over the weekend.  UTA leads the SC with a 2-0 record.  The match will be the first conference match for ULM, who is 2-5 overall this season.

UTPA is 3-7 overall, but has lost it’s last three in a row after a promising start.  The Broncs defeated Lamar 6-1 for their only SC win so far this season.  They dropped a tough 4-3 decision to Southeastern Louisiana earlier this season.

The Broncs are hoping for the return of Matt Gower, who did not play during a three-match losing streak over the weekend.  Juan Saiz tried to pick up some of the slack from Gower’s absence, winning a pair of singles matches.  Kareem Abdullah and Pierre Cantu also had solid showings over the weekend for the Broncs.

When asked about the match UTPA Head Coach Scott Howard stated, “I hope local tennis fans will come out and support the Broncs in this important Southland Conference match.”
