ADVANCES TO CONSOLATION FINALS AT LAMAR
BEAUMONT,
TX – Tom Mangleschots of the University of Texas-Pan American men’s
tennis team advanced to the consolation championship in the flight B
singles competition on the second day of action at the Brentwood
Intercollegiate Tournament at Lamar University here Saturday. Mangleschots defeated Thatcher Cribbs of Lamar, 6-0, 6-2, and Juan Pablo Alatorre of the host Cardinals, 6-2, 6-4, to advance to the consolation finals. He will face Dennis Andrade of Texas-San Antonio in the consolation championship match Sunday. Philip Koziell of the Broncs lost Saturday in flight B singles, falling to UTSA’s Brett Veale, 6-2, 6-4. In flight C singles action, UTPA’s Jeremy Salvo fell to James Young of Texas-Arlington, 6-2, 6-1. In the flight A doubles competition, Koziell and Salvo defeated Ricardo Almeida and Tom Macquet of UTSA, 9-7, then lost to Texas-Arlington’s David Corrie and Alan Goldshuv, 8-5. Kareem Abdullah and Matt Gower of the Broncs lost to Eric Subirats and Milos Vasovic of Southeastern Louisiana, 8-2, then fell to UTA’s Javier Carrillo and Tom Zarzecny, 8-3. In flight B doubles, Neil Barraclough and Brandon Meiners defeated Christian Oliver and Juan Pablo Alatorre of Lamar, 8-2, then lost to Paul Birkett and Matt Tate of Southeastern Louisiana, 8-5. The tournament concludes Sunday.
