Immediate Release: February 4, 2002 BRONCS FALL
TO BAYLOR
ENNIS, TX-The University of Texas-Pan American’s men’s tennis couldn’t take advantage of their chances against 13th-ranked Baylor Monday. Baylor swept all nine matches and defeated the Broncs, 7-0, at the Lion Tennis Center. The match was moved from the BU campus due to rain. Two Broncs split sets in singles. At number five, junior Neil Barraclough (Coventry, England, Cardinal Newman HS/Seward County CC) lost to Armando Carrascosa, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3. At number six, freshman Jeremy Salvo (Coquitlam, BC/Centennial Secondary) fell to Mike Garcia, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3. “I was pleased with the way we played against one of the best teams in the nation,” said UTPA Head Coach Todd Chapman. “We had the opportunity to win in four of the singles matches. We played hard and played with a lot of heart, but it just didn’t happen. This is the best match we’ve played so far this year. It seems as if playing good competition is helping us improve, which will help us for our conference schedule.” The Broncs fell to 1-2 with the defeat. They will visit Lamar this weekend. BAYLOR
