BEAUMONT, TX, TX-The University of Texas-Pan American’s men’s tennis team evened their record Saturday with a 6-1 victory over Alcorn State at Lamar University. The Broncs were also supposed to play Texas Southern, but that match was cancelled. Senior Kareem Abdullah (Clarendon, TX/Clarendon HS/Seward County CC), junior Neil Barraclough (Coventry, England, Cardinal Newman HS/Seward County CC), and freshmen Jeremy Salvo (Coquitlam, BC/Centennial Secondary) and Filip Koziell (Calgary, AB/Bishop Carroll HS) each won twice for the Broncs. Abdullah defeated Chris Morgan at number three singles, 6-3, 6-1, and teamed with Matt Gower for an 8-1 win against Martin Knobloch and Morgan at number one doubles. Barraclough defeated Philip Lwanda at number five singles, 2-6, 6-0, 6-0, and teamed with sophomore Pierre Cantu (El Paso, TX/Eastwood HS) to defeated Lwanda and Raymond Dotson, 6-0, 6-0 at number three doubles. Koziell defeated Jadepha Dade, 7-5, 6-4 at number four singles, and teamed with Salvo at number two doubles to defeat Dade and Shamari Mosi, 8-3. Meanwhile, Salvo defeated Dotson at number six singles, 6-0. 6-0. The Broncs improved to 2-2 with the victory. They will play Lamar Sunday. UTPA
