Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Downs UT Pan American in Men’s Tennis, 7-0
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi defeated the University of Texas-Pan American 7-0 in a collegiate men’s tennis match Sunday afternoon at the North Shore Country Club.
The Islanders, playing in just their second year of competition after over a 25-year hiatus, had little trouble with the Broncs, winning all six singles match and all three doubles tilts. The Broncs had won three straight matches going in, but fell to 6-2 on the season.
Jorge Cuesta had the most success against the Islanders, falling by just a 6-3, 6-3, score to Chris Bergues at number one singles, then came back to drop a narrow 8-6 decision with Unai Uranga in number one doubles. Juan Saiz also came close to picking up a singles win, falling by a 6-3, 6-3, count at number five singles.
The Broncs will return to action on Saturday, April 1st when they travel to Arlington to take on Arkansas-Little Rock at 10 a.m. They will follow that up with a match against UT-Arlington on Sunday at 10 a.m.
