BRONCS 14TH  AFTER FIRST DAY AT CLEVELAND COLLEGIATE

AIKEN, SC –The University of Texas-Pan American’s men’s golf team is in 14th place at the 15-team Cleveland Golf Collegiate Championship, hosted by South Carolina-Aiken at the Palmetto Golf Club.

The Broncs shot scores of 292 and 302 in the first two rounds, posting a 36-hole total of 594. UTPA leads Tulane by two shots.

Virginia Tech leads the tournament with a score of 558, followed by South Florida at 561, Texas-Arlington at 569, Furman at 572 and Virginia, Pfeiffer and Kansas at 574. The host Pacers are next at 575, followed by Texas Tech at 578, Southeastern Louisiana at 584, Georgia College and State University at 587, Maryland at 588 and Florida State at 590.

Sophomore Ben Piper (Lubbock, TX/Coronado HS) led the Broncs, shooting.scores of 68 and 74 for a 36-hole total of 142, tying him for 16th and leaving him at even par. Senior Santiago DeLarrea (Victoria, Spain/Colegio Miguel de Cervantes) shot 75 and 73 for 148, and is tied for 44th.  Freshman John Huerta (Alice, TX/Alice HS) shot 75-75-150 and is tied for 53rd, sophomore Rudy Celedon (Edinburg, TX/Edinburg North HS) shot 74-80-154 and tied for 71st, and junior Omar Halldorsson (Akureyri, Iceland/Schola Aknreyrensis) shot 79-80-159, good for 78th place.

The tournament will conclude Tuesday.
