Broncs Score in Double Figures as UT Pan American Rolls Past UT-Dallas,
101-61 EDINBURG
– Brian Merriweather scored 20 points to lead six Broncs in double
figures in scoring as the University of Texas-Pan American rolled past
the University of Texas-Dallas, 101-61, in men’s basketball action
Thursday night at the UTPA Fieldhouse. The Broncs
never trailed in the game, but led by just seven points at the 9:09 mark
of the first half. UTPA
then finished the half with a 31-12 run to take a 48-22 lead into the
locker room. UTPA followed
that up with a 16-0 run to start the second half, giving UTPA it’s
largest lead at 66-22. Merriweather,
a senior from Evansville, Ind., made 8-of-17 shots from the field,
including four three-pointers. He
also had a career high seven steals, tying for the seventh most in a
single game in UTPA history. Mire
Chatman scored 17 points off the bench.
Terrell Hill continued his strong play at center, notching his
first career double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Kyle Sanders also had a double-double with 10 points and 12
rebounds, his second double-double of the season.
Marcus Quinn scored 11 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the field. For the
Comets Charles Williams and Chris Timms led the way, each scoring 15
points. Justin St. Julian scored 12 points and pulled down a
team-high six rebounds. As a team the Broncs outrebounded the Comets 55-28. UTPA also shot 54.7% (41-75) from the field, including eight three-pointers. The Broncs scored 100 or more points for the third time this season and UTPA remained undefeated at home (4-0) this season. The Broncs will next take on Arkansas State at 7:30 p.m. in the UTPA Fieldhouse. |
