Immediate Release: January 29, 2001 Washington State Comeback Hands UT Pan American Another Tough Road Loss, 71-63 PULLMAN, WASH. -- Mike Bush scored 20 points to lead a second half comeback as Washington State defeated UT Pan American, 71-63 in men's basketball action at the Friel Center. The Broncs led by as much as four points early in the second half, but the Cougars slowly chipped away at the lead and took the lead for good on a lay-up by J Locklier at the 11:47 mark. Mire Chatman helped to keep the Broncs in the game with nine second half points, including a lay-up with 4:03 left that cut the WSU lead to just two points. However, the Cougars ended the game on an 11-5 to hold off the Broncs. Chatman led the Broncs in scoring with 17 points, while Brian Merriweather chipped in with 16 points, including four three-pointers. Terrell Hill (11) and John Braxton (10) also scored in double figures. Mike Bush led the Cougars with 20 points. The Broncs dominated play in the first half and led by 10 points when John Braxton nailed a three-pointer with 3:14 left in the half. But the Cougars closed the first half strong, going on a 10-2 run to end the half, including a layup by Jerry McNair as the buzzer sounded to cut the lead to just 35-33 at the break. |
