Men's Basketball Administrative Assistant
Rob McIlhaney

After spending most of his life in north Texas. Rob McIlhaney headed south to join the men’s basketball staff at The University of Texas-Pan American as an administrative assistant. McIlhaney joins the staff after serving as an assistant coach at the University of North Texas.

A native of Wichita Falls, Texas, McIlhaney played basketball, football and baseball and competed in track and field at Holliday High School, earning All-State honors as a point guard in basketball. A two-year letterwinner at Midwestern State University in his hometown, McIlhaney played basketball for a year at Howard Payne before returning to MSU to complete his degree and begin his coaching career, serving as a student assistant coach. McIlhaney was named All-American Southwest Conference and Academic All-Conference at Howard Payne. McIlhaney earned a bachelor’s degree in Sport and Exercise Science from Midwestern State in 1998, and a master’s degree in Kinesiology at MSU in 2000. He spent a year as a graduate assistant at Lamar University before joining the staff at North Texas.

“We’re extremely pleased that Rob has chosen to be a part of our team,” said Head Coach Bob Hoffman. “Rob has experience at several different institutions, giving us the opportunity to see how other people have done things. He is a quality young man who is going to be a great addition to the coaching staff we already have in place.”

“I’m very excited to be joining a program that is on the rise,” said McIlhaney. “Coach Hoffman has a great history as a head coach and has done very well here in three years. He has had stability on his staff, and I’ll be working with good people on the coaching staff and in the athletic department. That was a big factor as far as I was concerned.”
