BRONCS SIGN FIRST RECRUIT FOR NEXT YEAR
For Immediate Release: Wednesday, November 14, 2001 EDINBURG, TX-The University of Texas-Pan American
men’s basketball team has added its first recruit for next fall. Delvis Diaz, a 6-7 forward from South Plains
College in Levelland, Texas, will join the Broncs for the 2002-2003
season. Diaz, who graduated
from John Jay High School in San Antonio, will enter UTPA as a junior
with two seasons of eligibility remaining. Diaz averaged four points and three rebounds a game
for the 18th-ranked Texans (National Junior College Athletic
Association Division I), after starring at John Jay HS. He earned
All-District honors as a senior, was named All-City, and was his
team’s Most Valuable Player as well as team captain. “Delvis is one of our toughest competitors,”
said South Plains CC Head Coach Steve Green. “He has really improved
his three-point shooting ability, which makes him a tough matchup. He
has the ability to play both inside and outside.” UTPA Head Coach Bob Hoffman was pleased. “Delvis is very aggressive, he goes right along with the other guys we have at that position,” said UTPA Head Coach Bob Hoffman. “He is a relentless worker and a quality young man to have in our program. Delvis can shoot the ball and he is very good at playing team basketball. He understands strengths and weaknesses, and makes the people around him better.” MBB-10-01 111401 |
