FORMER BRONC STAR SIGNS WITH ITALIAN TEAM

EDINBURG, TX–A former University of Texas-Pan American men’s basketball star has signed with a team in the Italian Basketball League.

Brian Merriweather has signed with Basket Rimini. 

Merriweather led the NCAA in three-point field goals in both the 1998-99 and 1999-2000 seasons, and is one of only two people to win that title twice. The Broncs’ all-time leader in three-point field goals made, Merriweather was 326 of 797 from three-point range during his UTPA career, and ranks fourth in Bronc history with 1699 points.

“Basket Rimini has a reputation for preparing players for the NBA,” said UTPA Head Coach Bob Hoffman. “We’re happy that Brian has the opportunity to further his basketball career. That league has helped many other players come back and fulfill their dreams.”
